In this, it may be easier to take the name or registration number of the company and search on the CAC website, to know if such a company is registered or not.
Before you go into any serious deal with any company or a Business, it is always wise to first check if the company is registered. This is to ensure that you are safe, while dealing with them.
The Body responsible for registering businesses in Nigeria is known as the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). For a company to be registered, shows that such a company is serious in what they do, it also shows to an extent, that the company is legit.
Dealing with a registered company may not guarantee 100% satisfaction all the time, but even if you have any issue while dealing with a registered company, you will find it easier to report such a company to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). And the management of such a company can easily be tracked. FCCPC is a body established by the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the Federal Ministry of Trade & Investment, to help consumers deal with issues where companies have either provided poor service or they have sold substandard products to the consumers.
But if the company is not registered, it may be difficult to report or track the management of such a company. This is one reason it is always to deal with a registered company, when having a serious business deal.

How Do I Check if a Company is Registered With CAC?
If you are not sure if a company is registered with CAC, you can simply check out on the CAC Website. To check if a company is registered with CAC, all you have to do is to use the CAC Public Search. To do this, you may follow the steps below:👇
- Visit the official CAC Website.
- Click on “Public Search” or head over Here to search directly.
- This will take you to another page where you will search for the name of the company or the registration number..
- On the search bar, enter the name or registration number of the company you want to check.
- Click Enter.
- Select “Company” if the business was registered as a company; select “Business Name” if the business was registered under Business name; select “Incorporated Trustees” if the business was registered as such; select “Limited Partnership” if the business was registered as such; select “Limited Liability Partnership” if the business was registered as such.
Conclusion
That a company is registered with CAC may not be a guarantee that the company is legit or reliable, you may still have to conduct your due diligence about the company, if possible, look out for the customers’ reviews of the company to know what people are saying about them.
